Toledo, Ohio — Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose officially certified the results of the May 6 primary and special elections on Thursday, highlighting the critical impact of every single vote as numerous races concluded with razor-thin margins.
One of the closest contests took place in Northwest Ohio, where the Eden Township Fire and EMS levy passed by a single vote. Official records show 126 residents voted in favor, while 125 opposed the levy. Additionally, tied votes were reported in two other races, one in Logan County and another in Richland County.
“These close elections emphasize the importance of our aggressive election integrity efforts,” Secretary LaRose said in a statement. “One illegal vote can spoil the outcome of an election, which is why we must continue to exercise constant vigilance and zero tolerance for misconduct. Similarly, one individual stepping up to make their voice heard can make all the difference in their community.”
Several other races in the primary, often characterized by low voter turnout, were decided by single-digit vote margins, underscoring the significance of participation in local elections.
LaRose praised the overall administration of the elections, calling it smooth and accountable thanks to the dedicated work of election officials across the state.
“Our continued focus on readiness and high standards are a model for other states to follow, and everyone involved should take pride in being a part of that,” he added.
County election boards will continue to finalize post-election audits and submit their findings to the Secretary of State’s office in the coming weeks.
