Toledo Man Arrested in Connection with April Fatal Shooting

TOLEDO, Ohio — Authorities have arrested a Toledo man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in April.

Dionte Davis, 31, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon by Toledo Police Department (TPD) officers following an attempted traffic stop during which Davis fled from law enforcement. The arrest relates to the shooting death of 32-year-old Jovontai Highsmith.

On April 7, officers responded to a crash near Lagrange involving a white car that had collided with a truck. Inside the vehicle, they found Highsmith, who was later determined by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office to have died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck, and chest.

Davis was booked into the Lucas County Jail on charges of Murder, Felonious Assault, and Failure to Comply. An arraignment has been scheduled for Wednesday morning.

TPD continues to investigate the case.
