Four Arrested in Connection to Fatal Shooting of Toledo Teen

TOLEDO, Ohio – Four men have been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Toledo on March 4. Joseph Johnson, the victim, died from a gunshot wound to the back, with the Lucas County Coroner’s Office ruling his death a homicide. The incident occurred in the 800 block of Woodward Avenue at approximately 9:45 a.m.

According to Toledo Police, the shooting took place during a gun sale involving the victim. Authorities later arrested four individuals, all facing serious charges related to the crime. The suspects have been identified as:

  • Diamani Lear, 22, of Clarkston, Georgia
  • Delveon Lear, 23, of Toledo
  • Shamur Hughes, 22, of Toledo
  • Omarion Coleman, 22, of Columbus, Ohio

On March 13, a Lucas County grand jury indicted the men on multiple charges, including aggravated murder, two counts of murder, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises. Additionally, Diamani Lear and Delveon Lear face charges of participating in a criminal gang. Each suspect is being held on a $1 million bond, set by the court.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Toledo Police initiated a widespread investigation. Several hours after the incident, officers conducted a traffic stop on Sylvania Avenue and apprehended several individuals who were inside a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting. During the stop, police recovered three handguns from the SUV. The individuals were brought to the Toledo Police Department Safety Building for further questioning.

The tragic death of Joseph Johnson has left the Toledo community in mourning, as police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The arrested men now face a long legal process as the case moves forward through the courts.
