GIBSONBURG, Ohio – A 23-year-old off-duty Gibsonburg police officer, Jordan Queen, was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) following a crash on Saturday evening. The incident occurred on North State Route 101, where Queen allegedly lost control of her vehicle, struck a utility pole, and slammed into a tree.
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office has released the 9-1-1 call and body camera footage from the scene. The video reveals an interaction between Queen and a sheriff’s deputy shortly after the crash. In the footage, Queen can be heard telling the deputy, “My car is in a ditch right now against a tree.” The deputy proceeds to ask if she had been drinking, to which Queen responds, “I drank way earlier in the night.”
Despite claiming she slid off the road, Queen was unable to provide specific details regarding her alcohol consumption. Throughout the exchange, the deputy repeatedly asked her how much she had to drink, but she was unable to answer.
Emergency medical personnel who arrived on the scene reported that Queen had a noticeable odor of alcohol and was “kind of leaning” on a medic. She was transported to a local hospital where a breathalyzer test revealed a reading of 0.171 – more than twice the legal limit for alcohol in Ohio.
Following the test, Queen was charged with OVI. Additionally, her police-issued duty belt was taken as evidence, with a sheriff’s deputy informing her, “Your duty belt and everything was taken as evidence.” When Queen inquired about retrieving it, the deputy explained that the prosecutor would determine the next steps.
Queen, who joined the Gibsonburg Police Department in June of the previous year, was still in her probationary period at the time of the incident. She is set to appear in court Wednesday to face the charges.
As the case unfolds, questions remain about the future of Queen’s law enforcement career, as her actions have raised concerns about the conduct and accountability of police officers both on and off duty.
