Toledo, Ohio — Two people were killed in a tragic crash Monday afternoon on Garden Road near the intersection of Valley Stream Boulevard. The accident, which occurred just before 2 p.m., involved two vehicles and resulted in the deaths of a 41-year-old woman and a 56-year-old woman.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), the collision occurred when the woman, identified as a 41-year-old Toledo resident, was driving a Honda Civic south on Valley Stream Boulevard. At the same time, a 17-year-old man from Maumee was driving a Volkswagen Passat westbound on Garden Road.
Authorities reported that the driver of the Civic failed to yield at a stop sign and pulled in front of the teen’s vehicle. The impact occurred on the driver’s side of the Civic. Following the collision, both vehicles veered off the road, with the Civic ultimately crashing into an apartment complex.
The woman driving the Civic was rushed to the University of Toledo Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. The 56-year-old woman, a passenger in the Civic, also succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
The 17-year-old male driver, who was involved in the crash, was not reported to have sustained serious injuries. The OSHP has not yet provided details regarding his current condition.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Preliminary findings suggest that failure to wear seat belts may have played a role in the fatalities. The OSHP has ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the crash.
This incident remains under investigation, and authorities are urging drivers to be vigilant when approaching stop signs and to always wear seat belts for safety.
