Toledo, Ohio – A local man is searching for answers after his family-owned Sunoco convenience store was robbed at gunpoint on the night of February 19, 2025. The disturbing incident, which occurred around 10:00 PM, was captured on the store’s security camera and has left the community on edge.
The victim, identified as Nagib “Frank” Mahmud, was working his usual shift at the gas station, a family business he has managed for over 15 years. In the footage, a suspect, wearing a backpack, enters the store before pulling out a firearm. Mahmud recalled the terrifying moment when the assailant pointed the gun directly at his head.
“I thought he was just a young kid at first,” Mahmud said, reflecting on the encounter. “Then, he pulled out the gun, cocked it, and put it right at my head. His hand was shaking, and I could see his finger on the trigger the whole time.”
Fortunately, Mahmud was unharmed during the robbery, though the situation left him shaken. As a precaution, he has since kept the store’s door locked and is only serving customers through the walk-up window until further action is taken.
“I got lucky this time,” Mahmud said. “But next time, who knows? Someone else might be working here with a concealed weapon, or maybe I won’t be so fortunate.”
The Toledo Police Department responded swiftly to the scene, arriving within minutes of the report. Officers followed the suspect’s footprints in the fresh snow but were unable to locate the suspect.
In an effort to identify the criminal and prevent further incidents, Mahmud has shared the security footage with local businesses and urged them to remain vigilant. “We have a criminal on the loose, and I just want to make sure no one else becomes a victim,” he added.
The Toledo Police are continuing their investigation into the armed robbery. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crimestoppers at 419-255-1111.
Mahmud is hoping that with the help of the community, the suspect will soon be caught, and that this terrifying experience will not repeat itself at his store or elsewhere in the area.
