TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) and the University of Toledo are currently involved in investigations concerning two individuals affiliated with the institutions, both facing serious allegations.
Andrew Campbell, 33, a fellow in the Hematology-Oncology program at the University of Toledo, was charged with four counts of arson on December 19, 2024. Three of the charges are classified as aggravated. The charges stem from an alleged attempt to set fire to a home in Sylvania Township. In light of the criminal charges, Campbell was placed on administrative leave without pay starting December 20, 2024. A university spokesperson confirmed that the action was taken after the university was made aware of the charges.
In addition to Campbell’s case, the university is also investigating Dr. Tahir Jamil, a clinical associate professor in the Department of Surgery. Jamil, a volunteer faculty member in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, was placed on administrative leave on January 16, 2025. The university has confirmed that Jamil is under investigation for allegations of inappropriate conduct involving students in the graduate medical education program. While Jamil works closely with university employees, it was clarified by the University of Toledo that he is employed as a physician by another healthcare provider and serves in a volunteer role as a clinical associate professor.
The university has not provided specific details regarding the connection, if any, between the two incidents, and further information about both investigations remains limited.
Both individuals remain on leave as the investigations continue. The University of Toledo has emphasized its commitment to upholding high standards of professional conduct, ensuring the integrity of its academic programs, and taking appropriate action in response to these allegations.
