Large Commercial Structure Fire in Central Toledo Forces Public to Avoid Area

Toledo, Ohio — The Toledo Fire & Rescue Department (TFRD) is urging the public to avoid the area surrounding a large commercial structure fire in central Toledo on Thursday afternoon. The fire, which broke out at 2137 Smead Avenue near Bancroft Street, has caused significant smoke in the area.

The building, which was being used for storage, was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived. As crews worked to battle the blaze, the fire shifted to a defensive strategy, with firefighters focusing on containing the flames rather than attempting to enter the building. Around 2:30 p.m., WTOL 11 cameras captured the collapse of the structure, further complicating efforts to control the fire.

TFRD officials have indicated that crews will remain on-site for several hours as they work to extinguish the fire and assess the damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

In the meantime, residents and commuters are urged to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to operate effectively and ensure public safety. Firefighters continue their efforts to bring the situation under control.

Authorities are expected to provide additional updates as the investigation progresses.
