TIFFIN, Ohio — A 46-year-old Tiffin man was arrested Thursday after authorities say he was found downloading and sharing child sexual exploitation material through a peer-to-peer file-sharing protocol.
The arrest came after a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 700 block of South Washington Street in Tiffin. According to the Tiffin Police Department, the investigation led officers to uncover evidence that Mick Okonski was distributing explicit content involving minors via BitTorrent, a popular file-sharing network.
During the search, Okonski allegedly admitted to both downloading and sharing the illegal material. He was taken into custody and charged with Pandering Obscenity Involving a Minor, a second-degree felony. Authorities noted that additional charges could be filed once further analysis of the seized evidence is completed.
Okonski is currently being held at the Seneca County Jail, awaiting his arraignment. The Tiffin Police Department is continuing to investigate the case, with officials stressing the seriousness of crimes involving child exploitation.
The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the distribution of child sexual abuse material, utilizing both traditional investigative methods and digital forensic techniques to identify offenders.
