TOLEDO, Ohio – The trial for two men accused of shooting and killing a pregnant woman is set to begin this week, but defense attorneys are seeking a delay after new evidence has emerged. Paris James and Jerry Scott are facing charges of aggravated murder in the death of 34-year-old Tameisha Price, who was nine months pregnant at the time of her death.
Prosecutors claim that James and Scott planned and executed the fatal shooting inside Price’s home last year. Tragically, neither Price nor her unborn daughter survived the attack. According to court documents, a recent test of the murder weapon conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) revealed the presence of another male’s DNA on the firearm, prompting a new round of investigations.
In light of this new evidence, James and Scott’s attorneys have filed a motion requesting additional time to fully examine the implications of the findings. The defense argues that they need to investigate the new DNA evidence provided by the prosecution to ensure a fair trial.
“The newly discovered evidence may provide crucial details that could impact the case, and our clients need time to address these findings thoroughly,” one of the defense attorneys stated in a court filing.
In addition to James and Scott, Shatwiya Triplett is also facing charges in the case. Triplett, who is accused of obstructing justice by allegedly lying to police about James’ whereabouts, has filed a motion to sever her case from that of the two men. Her attorney argued that the obstruction charge is unrelated to the murder charges and that trying all three defendants together would unfairly prejudice her case.
Triplett is not expected to stand trial alongside James and Scott, pending the court’s decision on her motion.
The tragic shooting of Tameisha Price has drawn significant attention in the Toledo area. Prosecutors have vowed to pursue justice for both Price and her unborn child, as the case continues to unfold.
