Toledo Woman Pleads Guilty to Charges in Crash that Left Two Seriously Injured

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo woman has pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to a crash that left two people with life-threatening injuries. Marquetta Shahid, 55, entered a plea deal on April 9, admitting guilt to aggravated vehicular assault, vehicular assault, and operating a vehicle under the influence, according to court records.

Shahid’s arrest stems from an incident on September 13, 2024, when she collided with an eastbound motorcycle near the 3300 block of Airport Highway. According to Toledo Police Department (TPD) officers, Shahid was attempting to turn out of a private driveway when she struck the motorcycle, causing severe, life-threatening injuries to both occupants.

The two motorcyclists were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Witnesses reported that Shahid fled the scene shortly after the crash. However, she returned to the location after first responders arrived. Officers then conducted a field sobriety test, followed by a breathalyzer test, which revealed Shahid’s blood-alcohol content (BAC) was 0.132 — more than double the legal limit of 0.08 in Ohio.

Following her guilty plea, Shahid is scheduled for sentencing on April 25. The severity of the crash, along with Shahid’s high BAC level, has raised significant concern within the local community. Her sentencing could offer more insight into the consequences she faces for her actions.

Shahid’s case serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of driving under the influence, especially when lives are impacted in such devastating ways.
