TOLEDO, Ohio — A principal and a secretary from Birmingham Elementary School in Toledo have been suspended without pay following an alleged incident involving a second-grade student, according to Toledo Public Schools (TPS).
Dawn Wallin, the acting principal at the school, was placed on suspension on April 10, 2025, for allegedly violating district policies regarding professional conduct. TPS confirmed that Wallin’s suspension stems from an incident involving a student who was sent to the office after having a meltdown. A parent of the student claims that the young child, after being escorted to the office, kicked a paraprofessional. The parent further alleged that Wallin admitted to kicking the student in return, making the statement, “How do you like it?”
TPS officials confirmed that the incident occurred on the same day, April 10, 2025. The district spokesperson noted that Wallin would remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of a formal disciplinary hearing.
In addition to Wallin’s suspension, Jenna Oliver, a secretary at the school, has also been placed on leave. However, Oliver has been placed on paid administrative leave as the district investigates the alleged policy violations. No specific details have been provided regarding Oliver’s role in the incident.
Due to district personnel policies, TPS officials have refrained from offering further comment at this time. The outcome of the disciplinary hearings will likely shed more light on the situation.
