Toledo Fire Investigates Early Morning Blaze That Displaced Resident

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Fire & Rescue is investigating an early morning fire that left a resident displaced from their apartment. The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. on Bellevue Road, near Monroe Street and Douglas Road, in the west Toledo area.

According to the battalion chief on the scene, the fire started when the occupant of the apartment, who was visiting a neighbor at the time, left a space heater on in the unit. The unattended heater sparked the blaze, causing significant damage to the apartment.

Firefighters were able to rescue a dog from the apartment and revive it, though fortunately, no human injuries were reported. The fire also spread to a neighboring apartment, affecting multiple units in the building.

Neighborhood Properties, the property management company for the complex, confirmed that all three apartment units in the building were impacted by the fire. The company is currently working with the American Red Cross to provide assistance to the displaced residents.

Toledo Fire & Rescue continues to investigate the cause of the blaze, which serves as a reminder to always be cautious with space heaters and other heating devices.
