TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo family is desperately searching for their missing 13-year-old daughter, Keimani Latigue, who has been unaccounted for since Sunday night. According to family members, Keimani, a responsible teen and self-described “latchkey kid,” has never run away before and would regularly check in with her grandmother and father.
Keimani was last seen at her home late Sunday evening around 10 p.m. Her grandmother, Dorothy Latigue, said she came home from work to find the front door unlocked, with the house in disarray. Concern grew when Keimani didn’t show up for school the following morning, and her cell phone went straight to voicemail.
“I just want her to come home safely. She’s not in trouble. She hasn’t been in trouble,” Dorothy Latigue said, expressing her worry and fear for her granddaughter’s safety.
When Dorothy returned home on Monday morning, she noticed several alarming signs. Keimani’s glasses and keys were found in the house, but the 13-year-old was missing. Dorothy said the teen cannot see without her glasses, making it even more concerning that they were left behind. Additionally, the stove had been turned on, and the smell of gas lingered in the home, raising suspicions of foul play.
“Her pajamas were on the dining room floor, and her glasses were by the couch. It just didn’t make sense. Other than her and me, there’s just two dogs in the house,” Dorothy Latigue added. “Who turned on the stove? That was suspicious.”
Keimani’s father also voiced his concern, explaining that he had seen his daughter late Sunday night when she called him, expressing fear that someone was trying to break into the house. He and a cousin stayed with her for about an hour before leaving around 12:30 a.m.
The family has been actively searching for Keimani, distributing flyers throughout the community, hoping someone might have information that could lead to her whereabouts. Her grandmother emphasized that Keimani has always been responsible, carrying her own house key and phone for emergencies, making her disappearance all the more puzzling.
“She always calls me and asks me if it’s okay to go somewhere,” Dorothy Latigue said. “She’s a responsible kid, and this just isn’t like her.”
Toledo police are investigating the case and have issued a description of Keimani. She is described as 5’6” tall, weighing 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact them immediately.
The family remains hopeful that the young girl will be found soon and is pleading for the public’s help. Keimani’s disappearance has left the community shaken, and all efforts are being made to bring her home safely.
