One Dead, Two Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash on State Route 15 in Defiance County

DEFIANCE, Ohio — A fatal head-on collision on Monday morning claimed the life of one driver and left two others seriously injured in Defiance County.

The crash occurred around 11:25 a.m. on May 26 along State Route 15 near Deerfoot Drive, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).

A 2020 GMC Terrain, driven by 67-year-old Dewey Nagel of Defiance, was traveling westbound on S.R. 15 when a vehicle carrying a 58-year-old driver and a 22-year-old passenger, both heading eastbound, crossed left of center into the westbound lane. The vehicles collided head-on.

Nagel, who was wearing his seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 58-year-old driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, and the 22-year-old passenger, who was restrained, were both transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.

The OSHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
