Toledo, Ohio — Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose is urging residents to verify their voter registration information as local election boards prepare to remove inactive voters from the state’s voter rolls. The move is part of a routine maintenance program that started in 2021, aimed at ensuring voter rolls are up to date and free from outdated registrations.
According to LaRose’s office, voters who have not shown activity in elections for the past six years—or since before the 2020 presidential election—could see their registrations canceled. County election offices are also required to remove any registrations that are past due for cancellation.
Voters who are flagged for potential removal will receive a notification from the Secretary of State’s office by March 5, 2025. The final cancellations will take place on September 23, 2025. Importantly, no voter registrations will be canceled before Ohio’s May 2025 primary elections.
To keep their registration in good standing, Ohioans are advised to vote, update their information, or respond to any notices sent by the Secretary of State’s office. LaRose emphasized that these efforts are critical for maintaining election integrity.
“Maintaining accurate voter rolls is fundamental to election integrity,” LaRose said in a statement. “This careful and deliberate process ensures that every eligible voter can cast their ballot while removing outdated registrations that could compromise election integrity.”
The Secretary of State’s office encourages Ohioans to take action now to ensure their voter registration remains active and up to date. Voters can confirm or update their registration information through the Ohio Secretary of State’s website.
