Multiple Injured in Four-Car Crash at Douglas and Central in Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio — A four-car collision involving seven people led to multiple injuries and the temporary closure of the intersection at Douglas and Central on Sunday, June 1.

According to Toledo Police, the crash occurred just before noon when a red sedan, traveling east on Central Avenue, ran a red light. The sedan was struck by two SUVs heading south on Douglas Street. The impact caused the sedan to collide with a stationary vehicle parked in a nearby lot.

The chain reaction from the collision also caused a red SUV to hit a telephone pole, which subsequently broke in half, leaving wires scattered across the roadway. Toledo Edison crews were called to the scene to secure the downed power lines.

Emergency responders transported two individuals with critical injuries to the hospital; their condition has since been upgraded to stable. Two additional people sustained injuries and are also in stable condition.

Due to the severity of the crash and cleanup efforts, police estimated the intersection would remain closed until approximately 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Officials continue to investigate the incident.
