Man Wanted After Shooting Two Mifflin Township Police Officers During Traffic Stop

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Authorities continue to search for a man accused of shooting two Mifflin Township police officers during a traffic stop Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of Mecca Road and Perdue Avenue in Mifflin Township, located in Franklin County northeast of Columbus.

Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin identified the suspect as 21-year-old Daveonte Dixon. According to Sheriff Baldwin, the officers had pulled over a vehicle when Dixon suddenly exited the passenger side and fled on foot.

As the officers pursued Dixon, he allegedly turned and fired his weapon at them. Both officers were immediately transported to Grant Medical Center for treatment.

One officer was treated and released the following day. The second officer underwent a second surgery on Thursday and remains under medical care, according to a statement from Mifflin Township officials posted on Facebook.

The names of the officers have not been released at this time.

Sheriff Baldwin and law enforcement agencies continue to urge anyone with information about Dixon’s whereabouts to come forward.
