Governor Mike DeWine opens three new rest areas in eastern Ohio

Ohio – Governor Mike DeWine marked the opening of three newly renovated rest areas in Belmont and Washington counties on Wednesday, highlighting upgrades intended to promote driver safety while showcasing Ohio’s natural and cultural heritage.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the completion of the rest areas, which feature displays about the state’s natural history, historic past, and popular attractions.

According to the governor’s office, the goal of the modernization project is to provide cleaner, safer, and more inviting facilities for motorists traveling across eastern Ohio. Officials emphasized the importance of encouraging travelers to take regular breaks so they remain alert while driving.

DeWine said he hopes the improved rest stops inspire people to spend more time exploring Ohio, which has adopted the slogan “The Heart of It All” as part of its tourism promotion efforts. The new rest areas are located along key travel corridors used by both commercial drivers and families visiting the region.

The Ohio Department of Transportation partnered with local contractors and tourism agencies on the project. Travel-related information and maps are available at each site to assist people who may be interested in nearby destinations.

State officials said the rest area upgrades are part of a broader effort to improve transportation infrastructure and enhance the experience of visitors traveling through Ohio.

Motorists heading through Belmont and Washington counties are encouraged to stop at the new facilities to rest, learn more about the surrounding region, and take advantage of the modernized amenities.
