Toledo, OHIO – A Detroit man facing criminal charges in Ohio made a daring escape attempt this week, jumping out of a courthouse window and fleeing from authorities. Nathaniel Nix, 36, appeared before a judge in Auglaize County on Tuesday to answer charges of drug possession. When the judge ordered Nix to be taken into custody, he reportedly broke through a courthouse window and jumped out, making a run for it.
After escaping the courthouse, Nix allegedly jumped into his car, where he was confronted by deputies attempting to apprehend him in the parking lot. During the confrontation, one of the deputies was briefly dragged by Nix’s vehicle before managing to break free. The deputy suffered minor injuries but was not seriously harmed.
Nix, undeterred by the brief altercation, led law enforcement agents on a high-speed chase, traveling northbound on I-75. The pursuit continued for several miles until Nix’s vehicle eventually broke down in Wood County, where authorities took him into custody.
Nix now faces additional charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement, as well as identity theft. He was booked into the Wood County Jail, where he will remain pending further legal proceedings.
The escape and subsequent chase have drawn attention to the brazen nature of the crime, as well as the quick response of local law enforcement. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
