Man Arrested After Falsely Reporting Hostage Situation at Ohio State Highway Patrol Post

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — A 44-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after he falsely reported a hostage situation at the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) post in Circleville. Jeffrey Corby approached an OSHP trooper and claimed that a person was being held at gunpoint inside a vehicle parked at the post.

According to the OSHP, Corby led authorities to the vehicle he had driven to the station. Upon investigation, troopers discovered that the vehicle was empty and no hostage situation had taken place.

The OSHP released a statement confirming that the incident was fully contained and emphasized that there was never any danger to the public. Authorities also noted the seriousness of false reports, which can divert critical resources from actual emergencies.

Corby was arrested and charged with inducing panic. False reporting is considered a significant offense, particularly when it puts public safety resources at risk.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to remind the public of the importance of providing accurate information to law enforcement.
